Exploring Notion: My Experience with This Versatile App

Written on

Chapter 1: Getting Started with Notion

After a long period of contemplation, I finally took the plunge and installed Notion on my MacBook Air, iPad Air, iPhone, and Windows laptop at work. For those who are not acquainted with Notion, it’s essentially a highly adaptable tool designed to cater to your various organizational needs. From what I’ve experienced so far, it appears to be an excellent resource for managing everything in one place.

One of the fundamental functionalities of Notion includes maintaining a task list, tracking goals, managing a calendar, keeping notes, and recording meeting minutes. While these are just a few templates offered by the app, they showcase its potential.

As I’m still in the initial phase of setting up Notion, I’ve dedicated my time to customizing it for both personal and work-related purposes. The layout, as depicted in the screenshots, is dynamic, and I anticipate making adjustments as I discover my specific needs over time.

What do I aim to achieve with Notion?

One of my primary goals is to start journaling. Despite numerous attempts, I’ve struggled to maintain a consistent journaling habit, even though I recognize its advantages. By having a journal integrated within Notion, I hope it will simplify the process and encourage regular entries. With the app accessible on all my devices, it should eliminate any excuses for not journaling.

Next on my agenda is establishing a content calendar. I enjoy writing but often fall short in terms of organization. Although I could use Google Calendar for this purpose, I find that Notion presents a more cohesive solution.

Additionally, I want to track both my personal and professional goals. Like journaling, this is an activity that offers numerous benefits, yet I don’t practice it regularly.

Finally, I plan to utilize Notion for writing articles and storing research material. This is my third Medium article drafted in Notion, and I must say, the experience has been quite pleasant.

Notion provides a range of editing tools. Basic options include adding links, and formatting text with bold, italics, and underlining, alongside unique features like creating equations and using “@” mentions in the text. There are also advanced formatting capabilities, such as varied heading sizes, bulleted and numbered lists, and the ability to quote text.

While my requirements are not overly complex, I believe that writing in Notion will be a beneficial experience. However, I will reserve my final judgment until I’ve spent more time with the application.

Is Notion costly?

Notion Pricing Overview

Currently, I am using the free Personal version, which is suitable for individual users. As long as I don’t need to upload files larger than 5 MB or collaborate with a team, this version should meet my needs effectively.

I have only begun to explore what Notion can do, and even at this early stage, I find it worth considering a subscription of $4 or even $8 per month for additional features if necessary. The free offerings are impressively comprehensive.

To answer the question, “Is Notion expensive?” I can confidently say no.

Final Thoughts

Though I am still a novice with Notion, I am pleased with what I’ve encountered thus far. This application can truly be customized to fit your needs. By leveraging both the built-in templates and those created by the community, you can develop a powerful system tailored to your preferences. Additionally, utilizing these templates simplifies the setup process significantly.

I intend to test Notion for a month and will provide feedback on my experiences, including what I like, dislike, and my overall impression of the software. I suspect that the positive reviews are well-founded, and I eagerly await the opportunity to confirm this.

If you currently use Notion, I would love to hear how you incorporate it into your routine.

Until next time...
