Today, I revisited a concept that has been on my mind for quite some time: treating myself to a date.

About a year ago, I came across Julia Cameron's insightful book, The Artist's Way, which resonated with me deeply. It’s a reminder that anyone can experience fatigue and burnout. This is especially true for professionals in caregiving roles—doctors, teachers, and psychologists—who constantly engage with the emotions and struggles of others. There are moments when these caregivers might feel emotionally drained or detached, leading to a sense of emptiness. I aim to embrace each patient with compassion because healing often requires a heartfelt connection. However, when the influx of individuals becomes overwhelming, it can challenge one’s capacity to empathize. Regularly refilling your inner reservoir with positivity, love, and joy is essential to continue sharing those gifts with others.

Recently, I discovered a fascinating exercise in Cameron's book that can enhance self-awareness and replenish one’s spirit. This activity serves as a preventative measure against professional burnout. Here’s how it works:

  1. Reflect on your dreams—where have you always wanted to go or what activities have you longed to pursue?
  2. Organize this experience solely for yourself—no invitations!
  3. Dedicate a day each week to solitude and self-reflection. If a full day isn’t feasible, carve out a few hours.
  4. In your moments of solitude, pay attention to your feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Do these moments uplift you or drain your energy?

The aim of this exercise is to foster relaxation, rejuvenate your spirit, and reconnect with your true self. I frequently suggest this practice to my clients, and today, I decided to put it into action.

During my visit to the Khazine Art Gallery, I experienced the captivating exhibitions featuring the paintings of Kharis Yakupov and the bronze sculptures of Andrei Ostashov.

The serene observation of art, depicting simple rural life and nature, filled me with an overwhelming sense of warmth and nostalgia—a reminder of home and my roots. I found myself captivated by certain paintings, reminiscing about my childhood, my beloved grandmother, and the delightful aroma of raspberry pies and vanilla-raisin cheesecakes from my youth. The feeling of peace and unadulterated joy enveloped me.

However, the exhibition of Andrei Ostashov's sculptures titled "My Little World" evoked a more complex emotional response. The elegant female figures crafted from bronze conveyed both beauty and an underlying sense of danger, as each one bore weapons, armor, or other sharp elements. Yet, they also exuded a sense of innocence and tenderness, whether through the imagery of a playful bear cub or scenes of women enjoying tea together, or a nurturing mother surrounded by her children.

The sculptures displayed a fascinating blend of femininity, fragility, and sexuality, intertwined with elements of self-defense and, intriguingly, aggression. It was a masterclass in how the sculptor interpreted and embodied the essence of femininity in bronze, with emotions captured beautifully in the intricate details.

Through this artistic journey, I realized it was a reflection of my inner self. Today, I truly enjoyed a meaningful date with myself! Thank you, dear Marina, for inspiring this experience.
