Thoughts on Upcoming iPhones: Six Features That Could Shine
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction
As a dedicated iPhone user, I genuinely appreciate my device. However, there are several straightforward enhancements I wish had been included to elevate my overall experience. With the anticipated release of the iPhone 14, which appears to offer significant improvements over the iPhone 13, I have a few personal aspirations that could persuade me to upgrade.
- Integration of a Fingerprint Reader
Ever since Apple eliminated the fingerprint reader from the home button, iPhones have lacked this convenient feature, which many other flagship models still offer. While Face ID has taken its place, the absence of Touch ID can be frustrating, especially during the ongoing pandemic when masks complicate unlocking the phone. Apple has patented under-display fingerprint technology, and it is my hope that this feature will finally be introduced in the upcoming models, making life easier for users who wear masks.
- Significantly Enhanced Battery Life
Lithium batteries have evolved over the years, yet the improvements are often marginal. Despite having one of the best batteries on the market, my iPhone 12 Pro Max struggles to last a full day under heavy use. I often find myself needing to recharge multiple times daily. I wish Apple would explore newer battery technologies or simply provide a larger battery in future models. Even with the same battery size, more efficient chips could dramatically improve battery longevity.
- Larger Display Options
Users seeking a larger display currently have to invest in the iPhone Pro Max, which features a 6.7-inch screen along with premium features that many do not require. It would be fantastic if Apple introduced a model with a larger display without the added costs associated with Pro features. Rumors suggest an "iPhone Max" could be on the horizon, catering to those who want a bigger screen without the hefty price tag.
- Transition to USB-C
This request is arguably the simplest on my list. Many of Apple's other devices already utilize USB-C, yet the iPhone remains tethered to the outdated Lightning connection. While Apple takes pride in its proprietary cable, it’s time to adapt to the more widely accepted USB-C standard. However, I suspect that Apple may prefer to eliminate ports entirely in favor of a fully wireless device, rather than adopting USB-C.
- A More Robust Design
iPhones are considered premium devices, often leading users to invest in cases that obscure their elegant design. Unfortunately, the current glass back is prone to shattering upon impact. While I appreciate the aesthetic of the existing models, I would prefer a sturdier aluminum or metal back that could withstand a fall. Other brands have successfully combined durability with style, and I believe Apple could achieve this as well.
- Reverse Wireless Charging Capability
Reverse wireless charging has become a standard feature in many flagship Android devices, yet it remains absent in the latest iPhones. For users like me, who frequently use AirPods, this feature would significantly enhance daily convenience. Implementing reverse wireless charging would be relatively straightforward, given that many competitors already offer it.
Chapter 2: Conclusion and Thoughts
While iPhones are undoubtedly among the best flagship smartphones available, there is always room for enhancement. Apple tends to be conservative in adopting features that have become commonplace in other brands. However, integrating even a few of the mentioned features could greatly improve the overall user experience and attract more customers. I’m uncertain which of these features might make it into future iPhones, but any inclusion would certainly enhance the device's appeal.
