Samsung's Neo QLED TVs: A Bold Leap in Home Entertainment

The Evolution of Television in 2021
As the global pandemic continues to keep many indoors, 2021 is shaping up to be another year where people will find themselves spending increased time at home. Samsung is ready for this ongoing trend, introducing its latest TVs that not only feature cutting-edge technology but also enhanced functionalities designed for remote work, communication, and home entertainment. The upcoming QLED models promise to stand out significantly compared to previous iterations.
Samsung has consistently aimed to provide added value with its annual TV releases, and the 2021 lineup is no exception. Need full video conferencing capabilities? Just connect a compatible Logitech webcam to a USB port and use the Google Duo app for seamless video calls. Want to access office files while working from home? Samsung Knox simplifies this process, while Samsung DeX enables a wireless desktop experience on the TV screen. For gaming enthusiasts, the inclusion of HDMI 2.1 ports allows for next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, supporting features like VRR, ALLM, and 4K/120Hz, all easily managed through the new GameBar interface.
This year’s Neo QLED TVs not only promise bright, vivid images but also enhanced light control that brings them closer to the deep blacks typically associated with OLED technology.
Picture Quality Takes Center Stage
While features for remote work and conferencing are beneficial, consumers focused primarily on picture quality will find the real allure of the 2021 models lies in their display technology. Samsung is introducing a new backlighting system utilizing Mini-LEDs, which greatly enhances local dimming capabilities. Unlike previous models that had up to 500 local dimming zones, these new QLEDs—termed Neo QLED—boast nearly 2000 zones, resulting in unprecedented control over light.
This significant increase in local dimming zones, paired with Samsung's most sophisticated image processor, promises deeper blacks, more vibrant colors, and brighter peak luminance than ever before in LED/LCD technology. The Neo QLEDs offer a picture quality that approaches OLED's pixel-level control but maintains a brightness level two to three times higher, particularly beneficial for HDR content. Notably, these models also retain advantages such as wide viewing angles, anti-reflective screens, and a fast-operating system loaded with apps.
Samsung's striking Infinity Screen design returns this year with even slimmer bezels, achieving a remarkable 99% screen-to-body ratio.
