Overcoming Your Hatred: Embracing the Learning Process

Understanding Your Dislike for Skills
It's common to dislike something simply because you're not skilled at it yet. This is not a reflection of your genetics; rather, it indicates a lack of experience.
At times, we might express frustration, saying things like, "I can't stand Maths; it's just pointless and I'll never use it." However, the real issue often lies within ourselves.
In the beginning, it's unrealistic to expect proficiency. The term "beginning" implies a learning phase. It's perfectly fine to dislike an activity; it often just means you're currently struggling with it. The path to enjoyment is usually paved with improvement.
Am I Really Not a Tech Person?
For a long time, I considered myself “not a tech person.” However, when I ventured into coding, I found it surprisingly enjoyable. The reality is that any aversion you feel is likely due to your lack of skill rather than the activity itself.
There’s no such thing as an innate talent; the idea of instant success is a fallacy. Most achievements are the result of persistent effort and numerous mistakes. It's entirely acceptable to be inexperienced initially—failure is just the first step toward growth.
When you start something new, it's normal to struggle or even dislike it. This isn't a permanent state; it simply reflects a lack of experience. The more you practice, the more proficient you become.
If I had dedicated time to Maths during my school years, I might have developed an appreciation for it. Instead, my focus was on video games, allowing me to rationalize my struggles with, "I won't need this in real life."
The truth is, the more you engage with something, the more likely you are to enjoy it.
Asking the Right Questions
You might find yourself pondering, "Is this really for me?" A more pertinent question is, "Am I prepared for this?"
Are you willing to invest hours feeling bored, frustrated, and contemplating quitting? Are you ready to experience multiple failures before you can be deemed competent? This is often the route to finding joy in an activity.
Embracing the Process
Hating something while persisting through it can be part of the journey to eventual mastery and enjoyment.
