# Mastering Medium: How to Write More Without Getting Exhausted

Chapter 1: Establishing a Sustainable Writing Routine
This marks my 87th story, and I've recently celebrated over 60 days of writing on Medium.
One significant piece of advice I can share that has enabled me to consistently produce blog posts without experiencing burnout or depleting my creative resources is the establishment of a structured schedule. Alongside my blogging style, this approach has allowed me to generate a substantial number of posts in just 71 days. Let’s delve into both aspects.
Section 1.1: The Importance of a Blogging Schedule
Having a defined schedule or format for your blogs, posting times, selected publications, and article lengths is essential. Let's break down each component.
Subsection 1.1.1: Consistent Format
Your blogs should maintain a consistent style. Regardless of whether they are short or long, they should have a recognizable look. This creates a sense of familiarity for your readers, allowing them to identify your work easily. You want your audience to think, "Oh, that’s definitely Bruce."
Section 1.2: Optimal Posting Times
Posting at the same times each day helps your audience anticipate your content. This routine also aids in your productivity, as it establishes deadlines for content creation and uploads.
Section 1.3: Choosing the Right Publications
Finding reputable publications that consistently feature your blogs is crucial. Don't hesitate to diversify your choices occasionally to broaden your reach. It's beneficial to have a mix of options for both short and long-form pieces.
Section 1.4: Balancing Content Length
I believe I wouldn’t have been able to publish as frequently if I solely focused on long-form articles. Here’s a formula that works for me, and you're welcome to adopt it:
- Day 1: 1 short-form blog + 1 long-form blog
- Day 2: 2 short-form blogs
Repeat this cycle to maintain a steady output.
Chapter 2: Maximizing Your Blogging Output
My top strategy for generating a high volume of blogs is to always have a clear idea of your next topic.
While writing a post, you should already be aware of what you'll tackle next. However, it’s important not to let this distract you from your current writing. Instead, follow this method:
- Brainstorm five blog ideas.
- Create titles, select images, and draft outlines (or subheadings) for each idea.
- Write three of these blogs.
- Then brainstorm five more ideas and repeat the process.
This approach prevents you from pausing mid-writing to search for inspiration. You won’t find yourself scrambling for ideas late at night before diving into your work. Instead, aim for a balanced output: write one long-form and one short-form blog each day, then switch to two short-form pieces and alternate back.
