Why Impatience Hurts Your Journey to Success

Understanding Impatience in Today's Culture
Recently, I came across an insightful piece by @promiseeffiong370 titled “Welcome to medium, welcome to hell.” While crafting a comment, I found it difficult to contain my thoughts.
In today’s world, tales of “instant success” abound:
- How to Gain 100 Followers on Medium in Less Than 24 Hours
- How to Earn $10,000 Monthly While You Sleep
- How to Sell 500 Copies of Your E-Book Without Any Followers
- How to Build a Rocket and Live on Mars Tomorrow (okay, perhaps that's an exaggeration)
It seems that even those who have genuinely worked hard for their achievements often present their journeys as quick success stories, likely because they resonate more with audiences.
The reality is, few are willing to invest four years into a goal when there's a possibility it might be achieved in just four weeks.
I get it; we all desire to simplify our paths. However, I firmly believe that a strong foundation is essential for significant growth.
As the Dalai Lama XIV wisely said,
"A tree with deep roots can weather the fiercest storm, but those roots cannot be established when the storm approaches."
During the initial phase of my writing journey on Medium, I committed to publishing just one article per week for three months. Writing wasn’t ingrained in my identity or routine, yet I chose to dedicate time to embrace this new venture.
This decision is likely why I didn’t accumulate 100 Followers in just two weeks. Some might view me as unsuccessful on Medium due to this, but their opinions do not concern me.
Throughout those weeks, I recognized my progress, even if it wasn’t reflected in follower counts or audience metrics. I could feel my identity as a writer beginning to take shape. While I'm still on this journey, I have faith in the process.
Writers employ various tactics to reach their first goal of 100 Followers for the Medium Partner Programme. The Follow-for-Follow approach is a quick and easy method to reach that milestone, but it doesn’t resonate with me.
Those who write to genuinely enrich others' lives will naturally attract readers.
When you produce valuable content, you draw people in. If you are impatient, you are lacking trust—trust in your abilities, in the process, and in life itself.
With trust and diligence, you can reach your aspirations. Even if the journey takes longer than anticipated, know that it is ultimately for your benefit. Trust in the universe's timing!
Jim Rohn aptly stated,
"The twin killers of success are impatience and greed."
