What imaginative perspectives can you adopt to explore the future and its opportunities? Utilizing a new framework can illuminate the path ahead. The Grey Swan Guild, a global think tank comprising forward-thinking individuals from diverse backgrounds, has developed a strategic guide consisting of 30 daily thinking habits. These habits are designed to broaden our understanding of what could be possible.
This toolkit equips you with a variety of mindsets, behaviors, inspirations, disciplines, and viewpoints that empower you to investigate potential avenues for a successful future. Most importantly, it encourages you to break free from conventional thinking patterns and to view your challenges and future possibilities through various creative lenses.
Among these habits, three particularly stand out and merit further exploration:
Entertain Wild Ideas and Possibilities: Make it a routine to ponder “What if?” scenarios and consider their potential implications. When framing these questions, allow yourself to envision a wide array of possibilities, including those that might initially seem absurd or unattainable. I firmly believe in the value of this kind of thinking, as it often uncovers unexpected insights.
If you find yourself needing assistance to generate “What if?” inquiries, the SCAMPER framework can be quite beneficial. This mnemonic stands for Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify/Magnify/Minify, Put to other uses, Eliminate, and Reverse/Rearrange. It provides numerous avenues to creatively rethink your current challenges.

Journaling: “Regularly recording thoughts and observations can create a valuable trail of insights.” By externalizing your reflections in a notebook or digital note-taking application, you allow yourself to re-evaluate them in innovative ways.
This practice enables you to identify patterns, synthesize information into more profound concepts, and engage in manipulations that aren't feasible when ideas remain confined to memory. A highly effective method for managing and cultivating digital notes is Tiago Forte’s acclaimed Building a Second Brain framework.
Evidence Boards: Recall the familiar trope in detective shows where an "evidence wall" is prominently displayed? Detectives pin photographs of victims, suspects, and other critical information to connect the dots and solve the mystery.
We can adopt a similar approach for the information, insights, and ideas gathered as we explore future possibilities. However, we can leverage powerful and flexible digital tools such as Miro, Mural, and Milanote for this purpose.
