Travel is about the feelings, not just the sights

Chapter 1: The Essence of Travel
Travel is not merely a visual experience; it’s about the emotions that arise from new surroundings. The allure of change, the beauty of nature, and the thrill of exploration all contribute to our feelings in a foreign place.
"Travel is not just about what you see; it’s about how it makes you feel."
Section 1.1: Leaving Lisbon
As I prepare to leave Lisbon next week, I reflect on how profoundly this city has influenced me. Living in a walkable environment has allowed me to appreciate the simplicity of strolling along the river, listening to music, and letting my imagination wander with a good book. Each day in Lisbon unfolds new adventures, whether it’s discovering a hidden park or appreciating vibrant street art that I may have overlooked before.
Subsection 1.1.1: Embracing Solitude

Despite the sadness of leaving, I hold onto the hope that I may return to this enchanting city one day. My journey began with an inner urge to explore the world and chase my dreams. Yet, I often find myself questioning the path I'm on. My travel companion, Gregory Benedikt, and I frequently engage in deep conversations about our struggles and aspirations.
Section 1.2: The Challenge of Self-Doubt
Though I’m here to write about my travels, feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt linger. I’ve convinced myself that being in Europe is essential for my growth as a travel writer, but the weather alone isn’t enough to dispel my worries. I’m deeply invested in my journey and the difference it can make in my life and others'.
Chapter 2: The Nature of Travel
In the video titled Travel is ruining the world (here's what I'm doing about it) | sustainable travel tips, we delve into the impact of travel on our planet and explore sustainable practices that can enhance our travel experiences while preserving the beauty of the places we visit.
I’ve come to understand that there’s no sudden revelation that will clarify everything overnight. Instead, I must continue the work of exploring and documenting this adventure called life. My goal is to discover my true self, rather than becoming someone I'm not.
The second video, The World Doesn't Care About You (Travel Film), offers a perspective on the indifference of the world, reminding us of the importance of personal experience and connection in our travels.
It’s essential to embrace the feelings that travel evokes. My time in Lisbon has not just been about observing; it’s about experiencing the richness of life. I cherish moments of solitude, which allow me to reflect and draw inspiration from my surroundings.
As the evening settles in, the sounds of the neighborhood create a symphony of life around me. A guitarist strums nearby while students roll their suitcases over cobblestones, prompting me to ponder their journey. The distant Castelo de São Jorge stands as a silent observer to all these fleeting moments.
Ultimately, I am not just here to write about Lisbon; I am here to truly experience life. Engaging with new people and stepping outside my comfort zone opens doors to unexpected opportunities.
Our worries and fears often accompany us, but by traveling and exposing ourselves to new experiences, we learn how to confront them. What truly matters is not merely the sights we see, but the awareness we cultivate along the way. This understanding is what I will always treasure from my time in Lisbon.
