Transforming My Productivity with Twos: A Year in Review

Written on

Chapter 1: Discovering Twos

When I first registered for an app called Twos on February 23, 2022, I assumed it was just another to-do list application among the countless others I had tried over the years. Little did I know how profoundly Twos would influence my life!

Initially entrenched in the conventional productivity app mindset, I soon learned that Twos demanded a unique approach. The first few months involved a learning curve, but once I understood its potential, Twos became a game-changer for me.

Twos has undergone significant improvements during the year I've utilized it. The developers, Parker Klein and TwosJoe, have diligently integrated user feedback and refined the app using their Trello roadmap, transforming Twos into an unmatched productivity tool. Unlike any other app I've experienced, Twos truly feels like it has a sprinkle of something special.

I often describe Twos as quirky—a fitting term for an app tailored for unique individuals like myself. This characteristic is perhaps why it resonates with me so well, and it’s a compliment I hold dear.

In the beginning, I approached Twos like a standard task manager. I appreciated how tasks that remained incomplete would automatically roll over to the next day, ensuring I never overlooked anything, even when my pace slowed.

It was during a new contract in mid-2022 that Twos proved its worth. With an overwhelming amount of responsibilities and a hectic schedule, I found it challenging to keep everything organized. I was putting in long hours to keep up with learning on the job and managing a barrage of emails.

Amidst this chaos, Twos served as my reliable companion. I logged meeting notes, captured fleeting thoughts, and meticulously dated all entries. I organized my days and noted future concepts.

Sleep was elusive; I often found myself awake in the middle of the night, reaching for my phone to jot down important thoughts in Twos. This practice of offloading ideas truly helped clear my mind.

For a time, my Twos app felt cluttered, but thanks to its search functionality, I could still find what I needed. Eventually, with some mental clarity, I dedicated a weekend to organizing my notes into well-defined lists, structuring my tasks in a coherent manner. Everything I had recorded in Twos remained intact.

I experimented with various organizational methods until I established a hierarchy of lists—Personal, Projects, Work, House + Garden, and more. Beneath these primary categories lie numerous sublists.

Recently, I crafted a personalized version of the Eisenhower Matrix using color-coded tags for Do, Schedule, Delegate, and Delete, simply because I enjoy customizing my experience!

The app's ability to duplicate items across multiple lists is invaluable. Depending on my current focus, I may work by project, list, or my daily agenda. This flexibility allows me to tailor the app to fit my specific workflow.

Twos continues to introduce new features. One of my favorites is Universe, a visual representation of tasks and their interconnections. I also enjoy Twos World, where I can share some of my lists and explore publicly available ones. I frequently share lists privately with my team.

The strongest aspect of Twos is undoubtedly its community. The vibrant Discord server, managed by Parker and Joe, offers support, feedback opportunities, and informative webinars. For those interested in Twos, I recommend checking out this webinar for a quick overview and essential tips to get started.

Twos can serve numerous purposes: is it a note-taking tool? A task manager? A personal knowledge management system? A project planner? A bullet journal? It can be all of these, adapting to your specific needs.

I've never committed to an app for an entire year before, but Twos fits seamlessly into my lifestyle and, more importantly, aligns with my way of thinking. Here’s to another year of productivity!
