# Streamlining Your Desktop: A Guide to Post-Bootcamp Organization
Written on
Chapter 1: The Need for Organization
Navigating a coding bootcamp can be overwhelming. With so much to learn and create, your desktop often becomes cluttered with a myriad of files, folders, screenshots, and applications. By the end of your bootcamp experience, you likely find yourself surrounded by a chaotic mix of essential and unnecessary items, including nameless files and empty folders.
As you gear up to embark on your professional journey and start crafting applications, the last thing you want is to waste time searching for that elusive project folder or the screenshots for your demo apps. In my quest to tidy up my own desktop, I realized that sharing my journey could be beneficial for others. Here’s how I began my reorganization.
Section 1.1: Evaluate Your Current Setup
Start by conducting a brief inventory of your desktop. Use your file explorer to get a sense of how many files are cluttering your workspace.
Section 1.2: Address Unnamed Screenshots
Next, focus on your unnamed screenshots. Take a moment to rename any images that could be useful for your assignments or portfolio.
I discovered that I had developed a habit of capturing numerous screenshots each week—way more than I had anticipated! It’s crucial to sift through these images and delete anything that no longer serves a purpose. If you can’t recall why you saved a file, chances are you can part with it. Remember, items in the trash can can always be recovered if necessary.
Subsection 1.2.1: Sort and Categorize
Organize the files you decide to keep by grouping them into relevant folders. You can either create new folders or rename existing ones. Simply drag and drop your documents and images into their respective categories, and don’t hesitate to delete empty folders that you no longer need.
Chapter 2: Final Thoughts
After taking these steps, your desktop should start to look much more manageable! This article is the first in a four-part series, where I will also tackle the various subscriptions I accumulated during my bootcamp journey.
If you've made it to the end of this guide, thank you for your time! I hope this information proves helpful as you work to declutter your own digital workspace.
