Chapter 1: The Universe and Its Tests

Have you ever sensed that the universe is putting you through trials? Believe me, you're not alone in that feeling.

For me, it's my computer that has been a source of frustration. My keyboard's six key stopped functioning a couple of months back, and just yesterday, the backspace and letter R followed suit. A few weeks ago, the touchpad also began to act up. I've been managing these complications with an external mouse and an on-screen keyboard, but when more keys failed, my boyfriend kindly brought me an external keyboard. However, it only allows me to use either the keyboard or the mouse—never both at the same time.

Oh boy! It feels like the universe is testing my patience. To make matters more challenging, the external keyboard is in Spanish, which explains the absence of R's in my comments. This has significantly slowed down what is usually a very productive workday.

At this point, I'm only managing to write because it’s been quite the headache. I even sent my sister a snapshot of my setup, and she suggested another trip to Best Buy when she visits. I agreed, it seems inevitable.

If I can hold out until July with this setup, who knows? I’m optimistic about it. The kicker is that my computer is barely 2.5 years old! A warning to anyone considering a Surface HP laptop.

While I adore my device, it comes with a plethora of issues. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention—my charger is also acting up! It’s the second one I’ve had to hunt down; I searched all over Cape Town and was told that in Medellín, I’d have no luck either—I’d need to go to Bogotá.

Fortunately, the charger is still functioning, albeit precariously held together with a lot of tape, thanks to my boyfriend who understands my plight. He got a new computer last year, and I can’t help but admire how smoothly all his keys work, alongside a reliable charger.

It's truly a sight to behold—the charger, that is. His kindness is pretty great too, I suppose.

As the universe continues to test me, I’ll strive to keep my sanity intact amid this chaotic work situation!
