Understanding Anger
Anger is a universal emotion that everyone experiences; however, managing it appropriately is a skill not everyone possesses. Aristotle once remarked that while it's easy to feel anger, knowing when, how, and why to express it is far more complex.

Recently, while my husband and I were vacationing in Thailand, I found myself feeling more stressed than relaxed. As someone with a type-A personality, I often prioritize achievement and competitiveness, traits that can be beneficial in professional settings but detrimental when it comes to leisure and personal relationships.
According to WebMD, individuals with a "Type A" personality are characterized by their drive for success and impatience. This mindset led to heightened stress levels during our trip, making it easy for me to become irritable, which affected those traveling with me.
Fortunately, a visit from friends provided an opportunity for candid conversation about my struggles with anger management. I confided in them about how easily my frustration was triggered during our vacation. One friend offered valuable advice: “When you start to feel angry, place your hand on your chest and pay attention to your heartbeat. Use this moment to identify your feelings and take a deep breath. Acknowledging your emotions is crucial, as anger is fundamentally a negative response. Once you recognize it, the intensity of your anger can diminish.”
Pema Chödrön wisely states, “In moments of anger, patience means being intelligent: you pause and refrain from reacting. Speaking out in anger can lead to unintended aggression, regardless of your intent.”
Implementing these strategies requires practice and won't yield immediate results, but they can significantly aid in cultivating a more mindful approach to anger. Integrating meditation into daily life can help transform these techniques into lasting habits.
