# Insights from My Life Journey: Meta-Awareness and Learning
Written on
Chapter 1: My Unique Background
I grew up immersed in the diverse world of STEAM education, albeit quite by chance. My father, a retired professor specializing in Electrical Engineering Technology, and my mother, a fashion designer focused on bridal attire, provided me with a rich blend of knowledge and creativity. This combination nurtured a curiosity within me that has persisted throughout my life.
By day, I’ve often embraced the role of an engineer, while by night, I’ve explored my artistic side. This duality leads me to reflect on the eighth question from a recent list:
"What could you deliver a 40-minute talk on without any preparation?"
My answer? Meta-awareness and meta-learning. Here's how I'd approach it, so you don’t have to sit through a full 40 minutes of material.
Section 1.1: Understanding My Emotions
Before diving into the world of content creation, I maintained a habit of journaling through various phases of my life. I didn’t initially realize I was documenting my journey or connecting deeply with my own experiences and learning processes.
Let’s delve into meta-awareness. I define this as the exploration of one's self-identity. Questions such as:
- What values do you hold dear?
- What truths do you believe in?
- How do you typically react to different situations?
These inquiries formed the foundation of my exploration. As I dissected these questions, I found myself delving deeper into my psyche, hence my moniker "the Mind Miner" on social media. I’ve filled numerous journals with reflections on my identity, and I find joy in sharing my stories.
Section 1.2: The Learning Process
In terms of meta-learning, this concept plays a crucial role in shaping my identity as a Polymathic Knowledge Theorist (PKT). This approach focuses on understanding how we learn and what methods resonate with us.
My journey has been marked by transitions among various artistic disciplines, along with the pursuit of seven degrees. I share my findings here because I believe in the importance of articulating my discoveries from exploring my cognitive landscape.
A special mention goes to a fellow meta-learner, Jeff, known as Eclecticjoat. His work opened my eyes to the broader community of individuals who share this perspective.
Chapter 2: The Benefits of Meta-Awareness and Meta-Learning
If I were to present on these topics, the structure would look something like this:
- Introduction: Who I am and why these concepts matter
- Meta-awareness: Definition and its role in nurturing self-identity
- Meta-learning: Definition and its role in building confidence in one’s abilities
- Synergy: How these two concepts interact to unlock your potential
- Conclusion: It’s never too late to begin this journey
This framework would serve as a backdrop for all I’ve learned, spanning engineering, the performing arts, martial arts, parenting, and the balancing act of maintaining a 9-to-5 job while pursuing my passion for writing and content creation.
So, that encapsulates my response to the question at hand. Thank you for attending my TedX talk!
