Chapter 1: Welcome to the World
An 8 lbs and 11 oz baby has safely arrived—what a remarkable addition to our family! A big thank you to everyone who has been supportive and accommodating during this time.

I might appear unexpectedly, maybe like a stealthy ghostwriter. Many may recall my earlier request for baby name suggestions back in January.
Section 1.1: The Journey to Naming
My wife has made her choice clear, supporting the Medium path, though she's still a bit uncertain about it. A couple of weeks ago, she...
It wasn't an easy decision; we didn't finalize the name until the last possible moment. Before diving deeper, let me share a quick anecdote about my name suggestion. It's often the case that the mother has the final say, at least in our household. Our first son, Ryan, was born in 2021, and I proposed a few names for our second child, including Carl. Ryan and Carl—how awesome is that?
Today was quite an adventure; my older son experienced his first day in daycare for over six hours! (You'll read this about 24 hours after the fact.) Unexpected delays at the hospital forced us to adjust our plans. Unfortunately, the older brother now has to wait until tomorrow morning for a visit, as visiting hours are currently restricted to husbands only.
Subsection 1.1.1: Embracing New Roles
My new role has already begun, as you can see. We've been on a journey of self-sufficiency since the birth of our first child, and with four of us now, a new chapter unfolds. We may have chosen one of the most challenging paths, but the joy and rewards are ours to cherish forever.
While there are certainly challenges and downsides, isn't life about the choices we make rather than what society dictates? We often notice that many others face significant hardships. My approach has always been to get my life in order before seeking to help others with their problems. It may come off as selfish, but pondering issues without taking action is just as ineffective as any other unproductive thought.
Section 1.2: The Name Game
Now, let's return to the name we chose. It has multiple spelling variations, albeit unintentionally. Can you guess which one we selected? Derek, Derrek, Derick, Derik, Dereck, Derrick, or Deric? Despite the different spellings, they all carry a similar meaning: "Ruler of the people." Meanwhile, Ryan is often referred to as the "little king." We now have two little rulers in our home!
